Recension av First Class Teenage Punk
Adam Mico - Gods Of Music - 2002-10-10
Betyg: 8,1/10
Reading that this was power pop, my initial attitude was poor. The
feeling was similar to the nails scratching across a chalkboard sensation.
However, I was very pleasantly surprised by the extremely catchy chorus.
During the 1st verse, my initial feelings were verified. Honestly, it
sounded like standard punk-influenced pop. About to vomit, the chorus
kicked in. Out of nowhere, came a chorus that could have come from any
Paul McCartney contribution on any pre-Rubber Soul Beatles
record. It was simply brilliant and sounded much better than many other
stabs by like artists/bands with similar ideas.
The band supported the singing well, but nothing stood out except their
approachable and mophead waving bridge. Some of their lyrics were cliched
and simple, but worked well in the genre and the theme were definitely
aided with Beatles-influenced chorus. The production was solid with
an exceptionally sophisticated structure (for the genre), which clearly
enhanced the arrangement.
Determination:
Great summer listening for teens wanting to listen to pop, but have
evolved from American Idol assembly line pop and a guilty pleasure for
Gen Xers needing a smile to cover up former gloom.
