Some Stairs Might Lift Off
Put your Converse shoes on and bring your skate board. Here are the
Spiral Stairs : the kind of band which make pop-rock music with really
good melodies. This ain't revolutionary but it is quite fun and punchy.
Songs such as You and me and alcohol (great title + my favourite song
of the band) or Summer in my shoes are perfect tunes for people who
like to clap their hands singing to themselves "oohoo oohoo"
after every chorus.
The band has already released six demo albums, all available on their
website. Plenty of songs, then. Plenty of potential hits. Let the gladness
begin, their latest record, has just been released this year. Gluesquare
Companions is the opening title : it is a good example of how they sound.
I could have end this post there but I have to mention an anecdote.
The kind of story I would have written in introduction if I were a real
journalist : one of the guy who founded Spiral Stairs in 1998 is Carl
Dalemo... the bassist of the band Razorlight ! You know, the ones who
did the songs Rip it up or Golden touch. One of the regular NME's "best
new band in the United Kingdom". Amazing.
But is there someone here who can explain to me why Razorlight met such
a big success while Spiral Stairs remain confidential ? Do you really
consider the English band better than this Swedish one?
